A Local Mum's Guide to the Best of Mudgee - 2026

Things to Do in Mudgee: where to wander, sip, snack and slow right down

There is something about Mudgee in winter that makes you pull your coat a bit tighter, wrap both hands around something warm, and take the long way home for no good reason at all. The vines have gone quiet, the mornings are properly crisp, and the streets fill up with beanies, market baskets, woodsmoke and that weekend feeling where nobody is rushing unless there is coffee involved.

I live here. I am raising my kids here. And I run a rocky road business out of here, which means I spend an unreasonable amount of my life thinking about where to eat, drink and take the children so everyone comes home happy. So consider this my actual local's guide to Mudgee. What's on, where to go with kids in tow, and where to find Pebbly Path while you are at it.

One thing before we start: I would never send you anywhere with shite food (or drink). Life is far too short to waste calories on a mediocre lunch, and becoming a mum did not lower my standards one bit. It just means I now plan the whole day around where the kids can run off some steam while I get to actually enjoy my wine. No boring bits allowed, naturally.

Best wineries, cellar doors and local experiences in Mudgee

Logan Wines
Logan Wines is a beautiful modern, light-filled cellar door with one of those wide-open Mudgee views that makes you quietly start browsing real estate. Over the long weekend they have got their good mates Billy Boils popping up with Korean fried chicken that'll have you going back for 3 more serves, plus live music and tasting sessions across the day. Hot tip: bookings are essential for tastings.

Tunes @ Burnbrae Wines
Right, Burnbrae. We go ALL the time, so I am a bit biased, but Tunes @ Burnbrae is the one I would send any visiting family to without a second thought. Book ahead if you want a table and some chairs, or just rock up with a picnic rug and claim a patch of their beautifully manicured lawn. Get the their bubbles - Twinkle Toes 🩰, order more woodfired pizza than seems sensible, and say hi to Dotty for me while you're there - she's like the chief of staff, and you'll almost certainly meet her when you visit. Tunes runs 12 pm to 4 pm every third Sunday of the month, with bookings recommended.

Hot Rolls at Slowfox Wines
For something low-fuss and high-comfort, Slowfox Wines is Slowfox is a lovely option for tastings, wine and hot rolls. Cosy cellar-door energy, proper wintry food, and the kind of slow afternoon the name promised.

The Cellar by Gilbert

If your ideal Mudgee afternoon involves excellent wine, a long lunch and absolutely nowhere else you need to be, book a table at The Cellar by Gilbert.

The tasting experience is relaxed, the wines are beautiful, and their seasonal lunch menu makes it dangerously easy to settle in for a few hours. One of

Roth's Wine Bar
For a kid-free night out in Mudgee,Ā Roth's Wine Bar is hard to beat. And when you are all wine-d out from a day of cellar doors, the margarita's & mango-passionfruit martinis are exactly where you want to land. The pizzas are woodfired on site and genuinely good, and the live music is reliably great no matter who is on that night. That golden old-building glow does have a habit of turning "just one more" into three. Don't @ me about your hangover though!

Sunday Music at Mudgee Brewing Co - 5 pm to 8 pm
If beers and soulful Sunday tunes are more your speed, Mudgee Brewing Co has live music from 5 pm to 8 pm. Cosy, casual and reliably good, it's perfect for those moments when you've had your fill of wine tasting and just want a cold beer, good food and zero plans.

Markets & Local Shopping

One of my favourite things about Mudgee is that people still make things here.

Not just wine. I'm talking produce, preserves, art, homewares, baked goods and all the little treasures that somehow end up coming home with you despite swearing you were "just having a look".

If your visit lines up with market weekend, these are well worth adding to your itinerary.

Anglican Church Markets -Ā 8:30 am to 12:30 pm
Saturday morning belongs at the markets. TheĀ Anglican Church Markets run in the grounds of St John's Anglican Church, and they are all locally made produce, gifts, crafts, pantry bits and the sort of slow country-market chats that make you completely forget where you were meant to be next.

Mudgee Makers' Markets -Ā 8:30 am to 12:30 pm
Sunday morning is for theĀ Mudgee Makers' Markets in Robertson Park. This is an all-Mudgee market for local producers, artists and craftspeople. The bakers, bottlers, growers, painters and makers who give the region its handmade heartbeat.

For upcoming market dates and event information, visit the Mudgee Markets Calendar.

Pebbly Path will be there too
And yes, we often pop up at the Markets, so if you're hoping to get your hands on some Pebbly Path rocky road while you're in town. Locally handcrafted using local ingredients, 100% plastic-free, and gift-ready if you need to find something to take home to the dog-sitter šŸŽ
It's worth keeping an eye on our socials for the latest market appearances and event announcements.

Family-friendly things to do in Mudgee

Travelling with kids changes the whole itinerary. Suddenly a "leisurely cellar door afternoon" has to factor in snacks, toilet stops, somewhere to run, and ideally nobody melting down in a car seat by 3 pm. I have done all of this many times. The good news is Mudgee is genuinely good at sorting families out.

Ferntree Gully
Ferntree Gully near Rylstone is a cool, fern-filled spot with rock formations, narrow valley tracks and that phone-stays-in-your-pocket kind of quiet. Be honest with yourself though: this is a proper bushwalk, not a casual stroll. There are steps, climbs and a bit of scrambling. That said, my 5 year old manages it just fine, so it is doable with little legs if they're up for an adventure. And it's absolutely gorgeous.

Putta Bucca Wetlands
Putta Bucca Wetlands just north of Mudgee is the flat, easy win. My kids love it. It's a 2km return that is pretty-well completely flat, so it's great for a family bike ride. There's plenty of Aussie flora and fauna to spot along the way, and a playground with community BBQs if you want to bring a few snags and make a morning of it. Keep an eye out for the resident platypus!!!!

Mudgee Makers' Markets
I've already mentioned the Makers' Markets above, but they're worth a second mention if you're travelling with kids.
The Mudgee Makers' Markets are a lovely Sunday option for families, because Robertson Park gives everyone room to wander, snack, browse and sit without feeling boxed in. Excellent if you like your outings with a side of local produce and a bit of low-level bribery.

Burnbrae Wines
I mentioned Burnbrae up top, but it earns a second spot here because it is one of the easiest cellar doors to do with kids. The whole appeal is that the children can run feral on the lawn while I actually get to sit down and taste the wine. Pizza, live music, space to roam. Everyone comes home happy.

Bunnamagoo Estate Wines
Bunnamagoo Estate Wines is open 7 days, 10 am to 4 pm, child and pet friendly, bring a picnic rug and a soccer ball or frisbee to keep the kids entertained. Keep this one in your back pocket for when you want a pretty cellar door stop that does not demand everyone sits perfectly still. Because #mumlife

A little Mudgee local tip

Book the things that need booking, pack layers, and bring a market basket. Give yourself more time than you think you need, because Mudgee has a real talent for turning "we'll just pop in quickly" into a whole afternoon.

And if you're driving home, grab some Pebbly Path before you leave - road-trip snacks count as emotional support. I don't make the rules.
