8 Easy Ice Cream Crumble Dessert Ideas (that aren't just ice cream!)

One jar, 8 ridiculously easy dessert ideas, and absolutely no need to become a different person in the kitchen.

OK so this started as one of those “let’s just make a fun little extra” products.

Actually, no. That makes it sound slightly more strategic than it actually was.

We had delicious rocky road bits that couldn't be sold as whole blocks, but we didn’t want to waste them, so we thought “OOFT this would be delicious on ice cream”.

Turns out, our customers thought that was a brilliant idea too.

People started asking for it again & again at the markets (which was originally the only way to buy it).

But then stockists started asking for it, and after some convincing, we obliged.

And now here we are with our original mixed Ice Cream Crumble plus 3 individual flavours: Honeycomb, Mint, and Hazelnut & Coconut (and, a little easter egg for readers of the blog: there are more coming VERY soon).

So as you can see: this was all very sensible... very planned... very much not something that accidentally became a whole thing.

Most people grab a jar and think, “ice cream topper.”  Which, is fair, as it’s literally the name.

But if that’s where you stop, you’re missing the best bit.

Because this is where the jar gets actually useful.

The kind of useful where dessert looks like lots of effort was made, but really, you just sprinkled crunchy chocolate bits over something and stole the show.

No baking.
No meal plan.
And you didn’t suddenly become a masterchef.

You just had a jar...

Here are 8 ways we actually use Ice Cream Crumble at home, at events, and anywhere dessert needs to look a bit more impressive than the effort you have the time or energy for.

All 4 Ice Cream Crumble flavours lined up - Honeycomb, Mint, Hazelnut & Coconut, and Mixed

1. The classic: sprinkle it on ice cream

Alright we do have to start here.

Best on just some plain ice cream, vanilla, chocolate, whatever...
Big spoonful of Ice Cream Crumble. Done.

This is the “I promised the kids a special treat if they ... XYZ ... but I literally forgot/don't have time” option.

It also works when you’re having one of those nights where dinner was a bit beige, the kitchen’s a crime scene, and you desperately want something MORE than just a plain scoop of ice cream, but you didn't plan this craving during the grocery shop.

Scoop. Sprinkle. Done.

Pair it with: Whatever tub is already open in the freezer. This is supposed to be fuss-free 101.

2. Fully-loaded chocolate strawberries

We made this one for Flavours of Mudgee and it disappeared SO fast (side note: we'll be doing them again this year) 🍓

Fresh strawberries (green bits removed) go straight into a glass/bowl, melted chocolate poured over the top, then a generous scoop of Ice Cream Crumble scattered over everything. Stick a fork in me, I'm done.

Pair it with:Fresh strawberries, melted chocolate (we used our signature coconut chocolate), and the original mixed-version of our Ice Cream Crumble if you want re-create our 2025 Flavours of Mudgee recipe.

3. Loaded Choc-dipped strawberries

This is the one we tell people about at markets, because it’s almost too fancy, but is definitely too easy.

Dip fresh strawberries in melted chocolate (don't de-greenery them this time, you can hang on to the green bits for easier dipping), then roll them straight through Ice Cream Crumble while the chocolate’s still wet. Set in the fridge for like 5 mins.

That’s it.

They look like you've really got your life together, really thought about a fancy dessert to bring to a party... But in reality, they take about 10 minutes and nobody needs to know otherwise.

This is also a very good one for last-minute gifts, grazing boards, birthdays, or “I said I’d bring dessert and then immediately forgot” situations.

Pair it with: Fresh strawberries and melted milk, dark, or white chocolate. Then roll while the chocolate’s still wet so all the good bits stick. Definitely recommend mixing up the chocolate's (dark/milk/white) AND the crumble flavours for extra wow-factor.

4. Birthday breakfast pancakes

This is a birthday morning fixture in our house.

Pancakes, a drizzle of melted chocolate, and a scattering of Ice Cream Crumble on top.

Sometimes there’s ice cream on the side too, if I'm feeling particularly "treat yo' self".

If you want the pancake recipe we use, you can find it here: Pebbly Pancake Recipe.

Pair it with:Fluffy pancakes, fresh berries, melted chocolate, and +/- a scoop of ice cream if the birthday energy is needing a bit extra.

5. The cheat’s birthday cake

Listen. I love a homemade birthday cake. I've made the Gruffalo, a mermaid, a very hungry caterpillar, a carrot-carrot cake for Peter Rabbit, and even a half-Elsa half-Anna 'Dolly-Varden Cake'.

But I also live in the real world.

Sometimes you don’t have the time, capacity, or sheer will to make a cake from scratch, but you still want it to feel like a bit of a moment (aka this is the one I often make for my husband's birthday, and reserve dolly Varden effort levels for the kids).

This is the cheat you've been looking for.

Grab 2 woolies mud cakes (or IGA/Coles/whatever). Put one upside down on top of the other so you’ve got a 2-layer cake. Cover the whole thing in chocolate icing - make it yourself or just grab a tub of Betty Crocker's finest.

Then either tip a whole jar of Ice Cream Crumble over the top, or be a little more pedantic & press it onto the sides and the top so the entire cake’s covered.

It gives proper birthday cake energy without requiring you to lose 2 days to the making of it.

Pair it with: 2 store-bought mud cakes, chocolate icing, and plenty of Ice Cream Crumble. Minimal effort. Suspiciously good result.

6. Loaded doughnuts

We did this for International Doughnut Day, and I regret nothing.

Dip a plain-ole doughnut in melted chocolate, then dip it straight into a bowl of Ice Cream Crumble.

That’s the whole situation.

It’s basically fairy bread logic, but applied to a doughnut, which is exactly the kind of nonsense we support around here.

Quick. Ridiculous. Gone in seconds.

Pair it with: Plain doughnuts, melted chocolate, and whichever Ice Cream Crumble flavour matches your level of commitment that day. Feel free to mix it up with milk/dark/white chocolate as well as the crumble flavours.

7. Fairy bread, but chunky

Speaking of fairy bread.

Swap the butter for Nutella, then press the bread straight into Ice Cream Crumble instead of hundreds and thousands.

A nostalgic & whimsical treat.

But it feels a little more dessert-y, and a lot more “I made this because I have adult money.”

Cut into triangles if you want the full childhood flashback.

Pair it with: Soft white bread, Nutella, and Ice Cream Crumble. Crusts on or off is between you and your inner child.

8. Pebbly espresso-tini's

This one’s for the grown-ups.

Rim the edge of your glass with melted chocolate, chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, dulce de leche, or whatever sweet & sticky sauce you have in the pantry, then dip it into Ice Cream Crumble the same way you’d rim a margarita glass with salt.

Suddenly your espresso martini looks like it came from a bar that charges $24 and uses words like “exquisite”.

Except you made it at home... probably while wearing slippers.

Pair it with: Espresso martinis/mudslides and the like, some sweet sauce (chocolate/caramel/dulce de leche/etc). For grown-ups who like their drinks with little snack on the side.
