Tips for finding a mental health professional

Heyyyy you extraordinary human!

In case you missed it, I am BIG on mental health promotion and advocacy.  Pebbly Path gives back a percentage of profits to LIVIN mental health organisation as our financial commitment to the cause, but I myself have a deep passion in mental health promotion and education.

I've been in therapy on and off since I was 12 years old, and have learnt a few things along the way.  I know how hard it is to get help these days (cost, wait times, etc) so I thought you might be interested in hearing my favourite gold nuggets and epiphany moments, or perhaps my little tricks for when you're having an emotionally rocky road 😉

So, each fortnight, I'm gonna sneak into your inbox for "Take 5 with Tash", with a little blog post here to go with it.  Grab a cuppa and a chunk of Pebbly Path and let's get started with the inaugural blog!
3☝🏼✌🏼tips for finding a therapist
  • The single MOST important thing is connection - you need to find someone that you gel with, probably instantly - trust me, you'll know when you find them and you won't grow with someone you don't.

  • Re: wait times.....  Telehealth is nowhere near as shit as you might think - I absolutely believed that I wouldn't be able to connect with someone on a zoom, but during covid, I had no choice, and I found the most beautiful human who just "got me".  Try it, you've got nothing to loose

  • Cost.... get yourself a referral from your GP.  You need to do a quick verbal assessment with them, then get yourself a 'mental health plan' which gives you 10 super-subsidised psychology appointments (in NSW, there are similar plans in other states).
